Colina and I (Amelie-Rose) have been close friends since we were about 8 years old. We are both from France originally, and currently live on the Isle of Wight. We share the same passion, which is to travel.

From an early age we have also both wanted to support various humanitarian associations, and we thought it would be a fantastic idea to combine our travels with fundraising, partnering with a non-profit to raise money for them on our way. For our first trip we have decided to support the outstanding work of Action Against Hunger. We are about to embark on a 1,200 km adventure to circle the Pacific island of New Caledonia by whatever means available to us. This two-month journey will see us cross different landscapes and terrains, hugging the coast and climbing hills, through forests and across beaches – no doubt encountering many challenges on the way! Let us tell you more about the motivation behind it.

The Cause

Action Against Hunger is an international humanitarian organisation committed to ending child hunger. Every day they work to save the lives of malnourished children, while aiming to provide communities with sustainable access to good nutrition and safe water. With more than 30 years of expertise in emergency situations of conflict, natural disaster and chronic food insecurity, they have helped over 13.6 million people throughout 50 countries in the last year alone.

‘We need to be the changes we wish to see’ is the phrase which inspired us to take on this fundraising challenge. A child dies every 5 seconds due to malnutrition, and we feel it is our collective responsibility to do everything in our power to end world hunger. Children represent what the world has to offer for all of our future generations, and we believe that their suffering due to a lack of food has to stop, no matter the price.

The Sponsors

Tentsile: the world’s most innovative portable tree tents - take the meaning of adventure to a whole new level. They sent us a Connect Tree Tent to help us on our way. This will enable us to camp off the ground, away from all the insects, snakes, scorpions, and also help us cope with the humidity. It will allow us to travel through the most of some breath-taking landscapes, and raise money for an incredible cause while we do so. We also love that for every tent purchased, Tentsile plants three trees. We would highly recommend traveling with one of these Tents – it is not only comfortable, it truly allows you to enjoy all that nature has to offer.

Lifestraw: Award winning personal water filters, designed to provide you with clean water in the harshest of conditions. They’ve donated two of their straws for our trip, so we will not be short of safe drinking water!

Adele: The English Singer Songwriter recently sent us a Platinum Disc of her album ‘19’. We will auction this off and all proceeds will go towards our fundraising target.

We will be accepting fundraising contributions for the duration of our trip. You can find out more on our fundraising page.

We are truly thankful to all of our Sponsors that have helped us throughout the preparations and supported all our hard work. We can’t wait to see what our final total is for Action Against Hunger. Wish us luck!
