The Smoky Mountains are a gem of the American South. Take your tent, your pup, and your tribe, to experience some of the best green space in the country.

If that sounds like a good time to you, here are 4 great campsites in the Smoky Mountains to add to your summer list.

1. Cosby Campground in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, TN

For the best of that "Appalachian feel," Cosby Campground has you covered. Lush greenery, miles of trails, trickling streams, and a warm breeze all combine to make this campsite feel like a true and old tribute to Americana's finest. Read more here.

2. Look Rock Campground in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, TN

Look Rock is smaller and less populated than other campsites in the Smoky Mountains, so it's great place to go if you want a quiet, peaceful retreat into nature. 3. Cades Cove Campground in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, TN

If you want access to wilderness, Cades Cove is your exploration base camp. Skip the deep backcountry hikes and get right into the wild with scenic wildlife drives, bike loops, and trails for all. Just note: because it's so close to nature, it gets a lot of visitors. Expect to find it more crowded than not. Read more here

4. Elkmont Campground in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, TN

Elkmont is the site of former sportsmen cottages and launching off point into the wilderness of the region. The cottages are no longer in use. Step back in time and explore the forested areas around these overgrown structures. The best sites are, of course, by the river! Read more here.
