With the cost of living soaring, and economic turmoil across the world – many of us are looking for cheaper ways to take a vacation this year more so than ever. International travel, although great fun, is an expensive way to check out and unwind. Flights, accommodation and inflated tourist trap prices all take a big toll on our bank balance, no matter how travel savvy we try to be! So, this Summer why not try a camping break instead? It’s a much more cost efficient type of get away, and arguably a whole lot more fun. If you ask us, there’s nothing better than waking up to birdsong and stunning vistas of nature – whether you prefer a backcountry adventure or a more established campground to catch some Z’s.
Here are our top 5 reasons to go wild this summer break, instead of the usual package holiday!
1) Camping is GOOD for your body
Eating nutritious food cooked on the camp stove, and sleeping under the stars – then waking up fresh for a day of hiking, relaxing, fishing… or just about any outdoor recreation you can think of! These are a few of the great things you can do on a camping trip that can be somewhat limited on a resort vacation. Taking a walk whilst taking in the views of nature and getting that step count in, or just doing some stretches in the morning sun – your body will thank you for it. Especially if you’ve just woken up in a Tentsile – we can guarantee you a more comfy night’s sleep than you’d ever have on the ground.
2) Digital Detox – nourishes the soul
Taking some time out in nature is scientifically proven to have a positive impact on our wellbeing. Be it the fresh air, the Vitamin D boost, or the wholesome side activities - think hiking, birdwatching, or even a spot of al fresco arts and crafts – the Outdoors has a way of inspiring you to enjoy the free things in life and find pleasure in the simple things.
Disconnect from the overstimulation of the modern world. Put down your phone, close the laptop, and for the love of camping – do NOT open those emails. Detox from all things digital and reconnect with Nature – very few of us do it enough these days and it’s so fulfilling to get off grid and unplug from the matrix once in a while.
3) Quality Gear that lasts the years
Think about it – you pay for your lodging on a vacation (Hotel, Air Bnb, etc), but once you’re home that money is spent and done. Yes, you’ll have nice memories, but wouldn’t you rather have accommodation that you can use again and again (and again...)? Choice of gear is a huge consideration when you’re camping – you want to be comfy, protected from the elements, and have a place to store your other camping essentials. Luckily, our Tree Tents are incredibly comfortable, have a waterproof rainfly that you can use in wind and rain (or remove for stunning views on dry nights), and have storage nets both inside and below for your boots, bags, and bits. Best of all, they come with a LIFETIME GUARANTEE – so you can rest easy in the knowledge your tent will last for as many camping trips as you could ever care to take. Better value than a hotel room any day, right?!
4) Better for the environment
Plane travel is one of the least environmentally friendly ways you can get around. In 2023 alone, 882 million tons of CO2 were produced from air travel globally. Staying local will help you keep down your environmental footprint whilst protecting your pennies, and besides – who wants to waste precious leave time standing around in airport security lines.
5) Discover Local and National Treasures
One of our favourite things about off grid adventures is that you really do discover some awesome hidden gems along your journey. The kind of places you find that you can’t believe you’d never heard of before, and vow to visit again! You’ll be putting back into your local economy and helping it thrive. Every dollar spent in a café, restaurant, National Park or campground supports hard working folk in your community – win, win for everyone involved.
So there you have it! Our round up of the Top 5 reasons to head out on an Off Grid Camping adventure this summer. We hope we’ve inspired you to try it this year – even if you start small with one night away, it may be the beginning of a lifelong passion!
